Frequently asked questions about picture framing in Brookline, Boston, heck all of Massachusetts for that matter.

What can I get custom framed?

Over the years, we have framed almost everything. We frame paintings on canvases, needlework, 3D objects (such as sports shirts, toys, shells, tools, fossils, and collectibles) – almost anything that you can think of. We can create a custom mirror to fit your space too.

Our largest framing projects are pieces that require rental trucks for delivery. (think 8×8 feet). Our smallest frame so far was a miniture oil painting measuring 2×2 inches

Question: How long does custom framing take?

A: Since all work is done on the premises, we can offer rush services in as little as a day

Q: How do I measure my artwork for framing?
A: Measure the exact width (\(w\)) and height (\(h\)) of the outside dimensions of your artwork.

Q: What size mat and frame do I need?
A: We can guide you in this process. Keep in mind that if using a mat, the opening of the mat should be slightly smaller than the artwork, and the outer size of the mat should be calculated using color theory, negative space balance and the “weight” of the frame.

Q: Do I need a mat?
A: Mats provide a professional look, protect the art by preventing it from touching the glass, and fill out larger frames. They are recommended for photos and watercolors but generally not for canvases.

Q: How do I choose the right frame style?
A: We can guide you but keep in mind a few things. You can select a frame based on the art style and/or room décor. Generally, wood ornate frames suit traditional art, while metal or simple frames suit contemporary, photographic, or graphic work.

Q: What is UV/Conservation Glass?
A: It is specialized glass that protects art from fading caused by UV light. It is highly recommended for original art, documents, and meaningful photos. We also offer Museum anti-glare glass.

Q: Can I re-use an old frame?
A: Yes. We can cut custom glass and mats to fit your existing frame. We also can repair old frames that are in resonable condition.

Q:How do I choose the right frame style?

A: Don't get boxed in by your furniture. While matching your room's vibe is a classic move, framing specifically for the artwork unlocks way more creative potential. We’ll help you decide whether to harmonize with your home or let the piece speak for itself.
